V-Belt Q.....!

I have a basic aftermakrket sbc set-up: high pass-side alt., lower driver-side PSP, no AC. does anyone know what belt size to ask for at Autozone? the guy always asks what car, what year....when I say it's a sbc he looks at me like he's on another planet...the belt that's on there now is too long...but instead of trying every belt in the store; does anyone know of the correct # belt for a sbc with standard pulleys and the one alternator? I have the set-up like on a March billet photo....

Re: V-Belt Q.....!

its kind of a crapshoot, if you grab a thin 1/2" tape measure and wrap it around the pulleys it will give you a good starting point for the belt size, it will be the outside dimension of the belt. some belts are measured on the inside, others on the outside. it still took me about 5 trips to the speedshop to get the right belts for my setup

are the pulleys underdriven or stock sized?

Re: V-Belt Q.....!

i would look at you like that as well.

i have been looking for aftermarket pulleys and brckets and there are a lot of variations associated with "sbc". give him the year/make/model that your set-up came out of.

Re: V-Belt Q.....!

Yea, just tell them you want an ALT and Power steering belt for your 1983 camaro.
I just happened to have taken mine off the other day, so the belts are on the ground in my garage, lemme see...

"torque" brand.

15450
15455
There's another part number on them beginning with 17-xxxx I think. I believe those two numbers above refer to the size. 55 is longer. I forget which is which, but that'd be easy enough to figure out.
