86 column in 90 car, VATS?
my tilt column is broken in the way many of yours is that it shifts down and to the left when you pull on the steering wheel, broken inside the tilt mechanism.
well i managed to find one from an 86 and i dont care about my air bag, all i have to do is re-wire i think its the wiper connector, and everything else should work.
BUT what do i do about my VATS? is it the Ecm that looks for it? Can i just delete that function from im guessing the flags in the bin calibration? i can burn my own proms.
whats the easiest way to deal with this issue?

you can buy a vats bypass, or take the lock and cyliner from your old steering coulumn and use the vats wiring. thats the easiest way.

id definitly rather get the cylinder out and just change them, wouldnt even know what to do with the wiring tho.
whats a vats bypass?
i wish i could just disable it in the ecm somehow

Re: 86 column in 90 car, VATS?
The easiest/cheapest way to do it is to take your original VATS key cylinder out of your broken column, shove the VATS ignition key in it, plug the 2 wire connector back into the connector at the base of the column, and tuck the assembly up under the driver side hush panel somewhere. I put an 85 column in my 89, and that's all I did to keep the VATS working. Also, if the 86 column you grabbed has intermittent wipers, you won't even have to do any rewiring on that either, unless the wiper control connector for 90 is different than 89 and older.
