I am 2 degrees ATDC

Alright... My car was backfiring, and i thought it was the smog pump so i removed it, and it still backfires... then i looked at my timing mark and it was to the right of the 0, and after looking on here i see im at 2 degrees ATDC

Is the retarded timing the source of my backfire? Do I need to zero my timing out? or advance it a little BTDC? And rotating the dizzy clockwise is advancing right?

Re: I am 2 degrees ATDC

Be carfull. That mark is not always the best thing to look at to determine timing. The inner hub and outter hub might have changed places over the years. The otter one can rotate sometimes. It might not have though.

Either way, I would say your backfire is due to your timing, but I don't think that following that mark will solve it all. You will need to TDC another way, then start from there.

Well i adjusted it to 2 degrees BTDC. And the Car is no longer backfiring.

Yay!

Dennis: my car has a 95-00 350 engine in it, Do you think since the engine is not real old that the timing mark may still be off a little bit?
