vortec heads different pushrods?

my friend is taking off his goodwrench 76cc heads for vortec 64cc head can he reuse the valvetrain or will he need different pushrods. I told him he needs 87 and up style self aligning rockers anything else?

Yes you can use the same length pushrod. If this is a goodwrench motor with a dished piston, Use a thin steel shim head gasket to maximize the performance of your head swap. Felpro 1094 use felpro 1255 intake gaskets. If the cam has more than .500" lift use a long slot rocker arm or lengthen the slot in a stock self aligning rocker arm.
Vortec motors do not need a lot of valve lift to work well. No need to get carried away.
If he is on a strick budget check out the Isky cam catalog for some cool .450" lift oval track hyd cams eg Isky #201278. Makes great power in a basicly stock 350 SB with vortec heads and intake. Needs headers and a bit of gear ratio and converter stall. Not an emissions cam for sure. Degree it in on a 102deg intake C/L (4 deg advanced)

Isky #201271 is a little tamer and will bolt in with most stock vortec heads without machining with its .465" valve lift. You would want to check and verify valve retainer to seal clearance. Again degree it in and install with 4deg advance.

Oh ya, make sure, when He punches it the first time, to hold on tight!!

Hopefully the stock Vortec springs are already on their way to the trash heap.

Any more lift than .480" at the valve, you'd better check valve travel clearance. Some stock Vortec heads have been reported to have interference at as low as .450".

i tried to do a compression calculator on the gm goodwrench motor with 64cc heads and .015 gaskets but since the pistons are dished they ask what -cc they are and i cant find out anywere what the specs are on the pistons

Re: vortec heads different pushrods?

usually -15cc piston dish+ valve relief volume. Yes the gasket is 4.10" diameter.
the head gasket cylinder bore holes are always a little bigger than the cylinder bore.

The cr would be 9.19:1 using a .015" gasket and 64cc heads with a standard 4.00" bore and a .025" piston to deck clearance.
Make sure the block and head decks are clean, dry and oil free.
retorque the head bolts after a few engine warm/cool down cycles.
