can't rev past 4500!!!!!!
Well i have an 87 350 1 rear main seal in my 85 5spd z28. lets see it has vortec heads, edelbrock performer rpm intake manifold, and 750 cfm performer carb. It has an aftermarket cam but don't know the specs on it since it was in the engine when i purchased it from a friend. I also do not know what pistons i have but the car is fast and pulls strong as long as you are below 4500. as soon as i get to 4500 in any gear its like if i hit a wall its not like a revlimitter type of thing that it just keeps bouncing off of it but it just pulls hard then 4500 hits and I lost power. It does not matter what gear i'm in it will do this continously. I took it to my friends shop and they replaced the fuel pump and alternator and nothing. he said this "Not the cam itself but the timing of the cam in relationship to the crankshaft. The timing chain controls this. If they installed it incorrectly or the cam was ground with advance then the lobes would be advanced. That is why it is important to degree a cam."
----------
I also forgot to mention i no longer have the computer in my car and have the stock hei distributor from the original 5 liter carb engine it came with

Not the cam timing. If that was off as far as it would be by improperly installing the chain, you'd KNOW it.
I'd bet money it still has the stock TRUCK valve springs in it. :barf: That's the problem.

Look at the Comp 26981 beehives, with their matching retainers & keepers. Should drop right on with no machine work and very little fuss.

Those would be they....
The part # ending in 12 has 12 springs, for 6-cyl motors; the one ending in 16 .... well, I'll let you do the math.

Be aware that you can't always trust Summit's pictures.

y pictures? because of the size or y? well i'm just going to let the guy at the shop figure everything out. I just like knowing or tyring to figure out the prob also. Not to discredit the mechanic but just for my own knowledge. He is a very knowledgable guy. He races and he has a malibu that runs 8.1 seconds in the quarter.

yeah took me a while but i figured that out

For instance, the springs pictured in the link you posted aren't beehive.

Re: can't rev past 4500!!!!!!
my car is ready
it turns out a few things were wrong with my car. Was a little more then i planned on spending but hey whatever it takes i guess
. He said he installed a fuel preassure gauge and when he was going WOT the psi would drop to 0 then when he let off the throttle it would go to 5 so he swapped out the fuel pump and took care of that. The car was struggling to start and it turns out my alternator was not charging the batterie right so he replaced it. My carberator wasn't in the best shape so he rebuilt it and he also replaced my stock distributor which is something i knew had to be done anyway. All in all I haven't drove it yet but he said it has no problem revving past 4500 and my car should be running a lot better
