tpi didnt want to stay running
awhile back one of my buddys had an 86 trans am that he bought from the junkyard about 7 years ago
I wanted the engine so i tried to get it to fireup and but the pump didnt prime, so since it was a donor car i cut a hole in the rear of the car to replace the pump that i had got from a 92 firebird in a junkyard..
the firebird didnt have an engine and i didnt check the vin to see what engine it orginally had. so it could have been TPI or TBI?
Well i replace the pump with the new(used) one but i realize the gas tank is almost compeletly full with bad vanishy type gas and i didnt want to siphon it out so i put about 4 gallons of fresh gas in. I got the pump to prime but didnt check the fuel pressure, I go to start the car and it fires up but has a crappy idle.. which i believe is due to very old and bad spark plugs. compression checked out perfect.
I try to rev it up and it gives it no throttle at all and dies after a second. THE MAF wasnt hooked up.. it was taking air from the throttle body.
Since it fired up and i got the whole car for a weeks work of work at my buddy car shop so i decided to pull the engine.
now im in the process of refreshing the whole motor up with new gaskets and seals and just basic tune up stuff. but im thinking of why the motor didnt want to take any throttle.
------------------------------------------------------------
could it be that i may have swapped a TBI pump and it only supplied enough gas for it to idle? maybe that explains why it would cut out with throttle
or
could it be that the gas was so bad that it could not stay running off of it?
or
injectors? i ohmed 6 of the 8 today and they all registered at 16.5
anyone info is appeciated... im getting pretty far into this motor and i just want it to run like its supposed to once i swap it into the car

a TBI pump would cause those symptoms, so could bad gas. I wouldn't worry too much about it, just make sure you use a TPI pump and good gas when you get it back togather and you should be ok.

its been in the gargage for a month so far with the rocker covers off and spark plugs out.
it will probably be there another month and a half at the most before its ready to be reassembled
