intake manifold help

ok, this is where i started:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tbi/...-out-bolt.html

and this is where i am now:

i'm about to go out today and find an intake manifold to replace mine, it's for my '88 TBI LO3, i may just keep it incase i need it and attempt to fix it anyways. New question on this 2nd intake, i was told that i should create studs for the water neck. Can someone explain in explicit steps how exactly to do this. I know about the stud rods that come in like 2-4 foot lengths, just how do you suggest cutting them to length without screwing up threads, how do you suggest keeping them in the manifold...would locktite be enough? any suggestioins and warnings?? and does anyone happen to know the size of the stud i need. Thanks all that can help me out!!

Re: intake manifold help

Cut the stud to length and then grind off the sharp edges of the end threads at a 45* angle on your grinding wheel. It'll screw right in.

Don't know if studs are really needed there unless you want to keep something sticking out the top to attach grounds or something. To keep bolts from freezing up in the threads just apply some anti-seize to them before you screw them in. Aluminum has a nightmarish ability to freeze onto threads if you don't apply anti-seize.

Re: intake manifold help

that's my issue now, i broke a bolt off that attatches the waterneck and now i gotta go pick another intake up, because at the moment i'm not interested in drilling it out. Someone suggested creating studs because if they get stuck it's no big deal, and being the nut is going to be above the water neck, even if it gets a little seapage and rusts the stud in there or as you said aluminum likes getting bolts stuck, i wounld't have to worry about it because the bolt would be easy to get pb blast in and most likely would come out. where can i get the anti-seize stuff??? If i go to the counter of my advanced auto would they know what i'm talking about?

Re: intake manifold help

You can buy it just about anywhere- Pep Boys, your local auto-parts store, etc. It's a grey paste in a grey bottle. You smear it on with a little brush built into the cap. One bottle will last you 10 years. Just "paint" the threads- don't glob it on.
