accelerator cable lubrication?
again, sorry for all of my questions, i did not post this with my other post because they are totally unrelated.
my gas pedal is really hard to push, could i lubricate the throttle/accelerator cable and make it smoother? it doesnt catch or anything and might not even
need anything, i am just not sure.
the only things i have to comoare it to is my old carbed 305 and my 4.6L mustang GT and an older 5.0L mustang and it is just way harder to push.
sorry if this is not in the proper forum and if it isnt, moderators kindly move it. thanks.

Re: accelerator cable lubrication?
Well it only takes about 5 minutes to disconnect. So take it off, and check for the feel by hand. Then drop a couple drops of oil down the sleeve. Can't hurt. Move it around. See if it is helping at all.
Also make sure you don't have too much return spring.

Re: accelerator cable lubrication?
Mine gets stiff in the winter. Makes it hard to push the pedal without the car jumping. I haven't even tried to lube it yet. Let me know how dennis's idea works.

Re: accelerator cable lubrication?
I have used some stuff called DRYSLYD (i think thats what it was) on cables and seat tracks works real well. It is GM stuff they used for that purpose. It is a spray that leaves a dry i believe graphite film when the liquid evaporates, very similar to the lock thaw stuff you can get for door locks.

Re: accelerator cable lubrication?
It's probably the throttlebody rather than the cable. Might need cleaning.

Re: accelerator cable lubrication?
I know this is an old thread but the info is still useful for those with the same problem.
I have an 87 Formula with a 4bbl carb. I put in a new accelerator cable and it was really stiff. The bracket it mounts to made the cable attach to the carb at an angle. From the bracket to the carb that is, it went at an angle. So the inner plastic tube from the rear of the cable attached to the bracket going into the outer plastic tube from the front of the cable where it mounts to the throttle was rubbing. I got the WD40 with the straw attached to it, pulled the outer cable housing to one side, enough to get the WD40 to spray in there and that worked. Now the pedal pushes easier than it did with the old cable.
