86 Camaro curb weight

Hi everbody,
Have any of you had your car on scales? My 86 weighed in at 3900 lbs with me (200lbs) although specs I've read suggest thats a bit heavy. More like 3400lbs curb weight plus driver.
A 350 with near stock vortec heads, .028" head gasket and Speed Pro flat tops for 9.97:1 CR, Comp 268H flat tappet cam 4 degrees advanced (200 PSI cranking pressure), 1.6 Pro Magnum rockers, 34 degrees total advance with 12 initial (94 octane), shorty headers with 3" single cat, typically modified 4L60 with TCI Breakaway convertor (2500+/- stall), 3.73 BW posi with 26" drag radials get me a best 13.4@102 with a 1.89 60'. Nice summer day near Toronto. 70 degrees and average humidity.
Seems like everyone else is a bit quicker considering the combinations.
I'm thinking some 1 5/8 long tube headers with 20" long collectors and true duals will bring on the torque when the motor is on the convertor. Should improve the 60'. I'd love 12's but doubt it'll happen.
Suggestions?
Any other weigh-ins?

Re: 86 Camaro curb weight

I have an 86 Camaro with T-tops(in case it makes a weight difference) and the title says 3352 lbs, I've never had it on a scale though so I'm not sure how acurate that is.

Re: 86 Camaro curb weight

Sounds a little light although with all the differant ways they weigh a vehicle (shipping, curb, gross, etc) and all the options (eg. a/c) it'd be difficult to say what the title weight means.
Thanks

Re: 86 Camaro curb weight

3300lbs (without me i think - i walked off the scale as the dude printed the readout and didnt check).
I think if your under 3000lbs thats awesome, thats my goal anyway.

Re: 86 Camaro curb weight

If what I understand is accurate, then reducing my vehicle weight from 3600 to 3000 (as is your goal) will bring my ET down about 6/10s. One tenth for every 100 lbs more or less.
Question is, where do you lose 600 lbs from a fully streetable car?
Removing the crash bumpers from beneath the front and rear valence and the impact beams in the doors would help a lot but at what risk?

Re: 86 Camaro curb weight

My 86 t-top iroc weighted 3600 with me in to the car. So the car wieghts 3340 pounds. Is all stock with a/c except the air pump and fog lights. It has 16" wheels and 245/16 tires. That the same garconer and assiuroc's cars.

Re: 86 Camaro curb weight

I had the car weighed a second time and the results compare with yours and the rest.
Guess I'm making less power than I thought.
3600lbs
13.4 seconds
102 mph
300 rwhp
375 at the flywheel.
Maybe.

Re: 86 Camaro curb weight

I'm picking up another Camaro next week and had the title faxed to me. It says an empty weight of 3071 lbs. That's light. Even with half a tank of fuel (60lbs) and me (200lbs) that's only 3331 lbs going down the road. That's 400 lbs lighter than my 86 IROC-Z.

Re: 86 Camaro curb weight

my '85 z28 weighed in at 3260 without me in it, and with a 1/3 tank of gas, on a scale less than 3 months old. The car is totally stock, but with the A/C removed and smog equipment removed.

my hardtop stick 89 says 3200 on the door. I guess thats probably no driver empty tank? So i would say maybe 3500 lbs.

Re: 86 Camaro curb weight

Race weight, car, driver, fuel etc is how much weight the engine has to move. On a typical street car, I always estimate this at 3500 pounds but depending on options, this can go 100-200 pounds either way. How much a car weighs without a driver doesn't mean much unless you're shipping or transporting it.

My car's race weight is 3042 but it's also a stripped down, gutted out, race car. Trying to strip 500 pounds out of a third gen street car isn't easy. It's easier to make a car faster by making it lighter than by making HP but how much you can remove in a street car is limited.

My 84 Z28 with T-Tops and most heavily optioned came in at 3250 from the smog station. I don't know how they come up with that number though. The back wheels go on rollers, but I don't see how they weigh it.

Re: 86 Camaro curb weight

I have a question, like i said, my Iroc reads 3205 lbs on the door. What weight is that? I;m assuming that is no fuel or driver??

IIRC the number on the title/door is without any fluids (no gas, coolent, oil, trans, diff, washer etc.). but i am not totally positive on that.

So would a 1 1/2 ton floor Jack be sufficient to lift this car?
