cam choice
I just pulled a 350ci out of a 4x4 pickup that has been rebuilt. It has 10k mi on it and is in good condition. Can anyone give me a good cam choice that will work with the stock valve springs? It is a GM crate replacement engine about 165 hp, 4bbl, HEI. I have an edelbrock intake and carb for it, plan to get hedders and boost the spark. I really don't need 6,000 rpm on stock rods
never had much luck in that dept. 5,500 or less would be good.
Thanx sqzbox

Re: cam choice
What year is the engine? Is it the old style with the flat tappet cam or the newer style with the roller cam?
roller cam = LT1 cam, used
flat tappet cam = stock cam, like a performer
With your low power intake and low rpm goal, I'd say you're looking somewhere in the neighborhood of an RV cam.

The engine is old style, flat tappet cast #3970010 May be 2 or 4 bolt. I won't know for sure till I get the pan off.
