Yet another thread on intakes
OK, so I know this has been done to death but I've been reading old threads for ages and want to clarify. I have a stock 350 (1991), cast heads running a Holley 650, GM aluminum intake and a manual transmission. This is really just a street car. I'm looking to to upgrade the intake.
From what I read Edelbrock Performer isn't going to be much better that what I have now. Performer RPM is good for the street and the advantages of the Air Gap are in the higher rpm ranges - more for racing applications.
They don't appear to make an RPM version for the '87-95 engines. I can get an RPM Air gap though. I'm also wondering about the Weiand Action Plus. I should mention that hood clearance isn't an issue,
I'm not doing anything with the cam right now. So my question is, can I expect a performance improvement (with a combined cold air system) with these intakes, is one better than another for a stock application? If I upgrade the cam later (nothing too radical) do I need to take this into account now?

I would not expect to really see any improvement at all from adding an intake as mentioned. Basically that is not the bottleneck in your combo. I have seen stock aluminum intakes with gasket matching on 400hp engines. Would they benefit from a better intake, probably. Will you, probably not. Look to the other aspects of your combo first. What is your engine stock from? What type of car, etc? Depending on that you need to look at heads, cam, etc. Leave the intake for a while.

One thing I neglected to mention is that the current intake is for a spread bore while I'm running a square bore, so I have an adapter plate. One of the reasons that I wanted to change the intake in the first place was to match the carb and intake properly. However, that is based on threads by people complaining that the adapter causes a loss. Is that the case?
