Re: neutrL sAfety switch
According to the schematic, and only IF these are the wire colors present at the plug:
Yellow and purple: starter circuit, closed together when in park or neutral.
Black with white stripe and orange with black stripe: ECM circuit, open when in park or neutral. Closed when in "gear".
Light green and dark blue: backup light circuit, closed together only in reverse.
(standard disclaimer: if you short something out, it ain't my fault)

To work the starter, yes.
The other ones wouldn't be there if they weren't needed.
If your car no longer has an ecm, you could leave "Black with white stripe and orange with black stripe" disconnected. It may be tied into the cruise control also. If so, it wouldn't work afterwards.
The last 2 could be left disconnected if not having backup lights doesn't bother you.

Re: neutrL sAfety switch
i have the ecm still, but im thinking that it only reads the ecm if them are connected to tell it what gear your in... so if just the yellow anpurple hooked up i should be able to drive it right?
