High mileage engine question
My car has it's original engine (and it's original owner). The question is would it be "wise" to perform a head and/or cam swap on a 305 with 160K+ miles on the engine? It's been well cared for, never abused, always had synthetic fluids and runs strong for an LO3 (converted to TPI in Nov. '06). It was also a daily driver until Oct. '02 and has been a toy ever since. Good idea or not?
No 350 swap suggestions please.

Re: High mileage engine question
If it's not showing signs of problems, then there's not much to worry about.
Re: High mileage engine question
I think it's a good idea.
Replacing the heads means you get new springs and valve seals, so you'll reduce your chances of valve float from weak springs, and oil consumption from leaky valve seals. You'll also get new head gaskets and top end gaskets too, which is always a good thing.
Replacing your cam would need new springs, which you already got with your head swap.
