Hey folks. Heres the problem sometimes after my car sits for a couple days, I will go to fire it up and it idles violently rough. Tach goin all over. I can feather the throttle to keep it goin but still very very rough. It also smells super rich almost like raw fuel is coming out of the exhaust, but no puddle. If I keep babying it along long enough it will clear up and idle. This morning after I got the idle calmed down it surged for a little until I blipped the throttle then it was fine. I took it for a test drive and notice that the idle wouldnt drop below 1500 RPM at a stop. Pulled into my driveway and just gave it a quick rev to about 3k and it idled fine. I have the back seal off the hood and read that it might let water in but the firewall and around the cap has no moisture. Any help would be awesome thanks. plugs wires cap and rotor all under 15k miles old.

 

check the plugs look at color and for deposits, does it smoke?

sorry was out of town havent kept up with the thread. No smoke at all but smells pig rich. I just did the plugs not too long ago but will check. The thing is if it was a plug problem wouldnt it run rough till the plug was fixed? This clears up after a while.

 

if you have a vacuum guage, see what kind of vacuum you are pulling at idle. one of the most common causes of rough/high idle is vacuum leaks.

 

Maybe look at the CTS too, they can do weird things sometimes.

 

to me that definitely sounds like some kind of a vacuum leak, whether it be a loose hose or an improperly routed hose or a missing hose.
