Retro-fit lifter pushrod length

I'm trying to find the correct length pushrod for my 383. I'm running a set of retro fit roller lifters, and am using a hi tech adjustable pushrod length checker. I always come up with 4 turns out which means I need a 7" pushrod, but this seems to be an odd ball size. Comp cams shows that I should be using something around 7.3". I'm putting 1/2 a turn of preload, do the lifters need to be pumped up? Anyone running these lifters and wanna tell me what length your running? Am also running a cam with a small base circle to clear the rods if that makes a difference.
