fuel pump
i was wondering if the fuel pump turned on every time you turn the key to the on position or was it just once in the beginning to prime the car? it takes me a few cranks to turn the car on after its been sitting for awhile but after that its fine. also the ses light is on and its giving me code 54. just changed the fuel pump but the light comes on sometimes and at other times its not on?

Re: fuel pump
would you be able to hear it every time or just the first time when it is priming the fuel?

Re: fuel pump
and for the ses light could it be possible that the oil pressure switch be making it turn on because everything seems to be fine on the car as far as i know

Re: fuel pump
No, if you're getting a code 54 when you start the car you likely have a bad fuel pump relay.

Re: fuel pump
so even though the fuel pump turns on and the car runs the relay could still be bad? thanks for the help by the way

Re: fuel pump
With a bad relay, the fuel pump will turn on after the engine has cranked long enough to build enough oil pressure to turn on the oil pressure switch.

Re: fuel pump
ok... and once the vehicle is on its just getting the rest of the signal from the oil pressure switch.

Re: fuel pump
Right, that's pretty much the whole point of the oil pressure switch, it's a backup to the fuel pump relay.

Re: fuel pump
i changed the relay and it seems to be working good now. the pump turns on in the beginning for about 2 seconds and it seems to turn over on the first crank now. the check engine lights not on anymore so for now i think its good. thanks for the help
