FInding an oil leak

Okay, i'm leakin oil somehwere and i cant find out where, i know my oil pan seal is a bit shotty so im gonna get a new gasket for that, and i THINK its my timing cover too, i changed my valve cover gaskets a few months back and those are still good, when i look under my car i notice a line of oil beading down my lower radiator hose, its kinda thick around the timing cover too, how hard is it to do the timing cover and how do i do it?

ALSO...are there any notorious leak spots i should know about??

Re: FInding an oil leak

buy the one piece oil pan gasket

do the oil pan and the timing gasket at the same time

while you are at it you might as well get a rear main seal oil pump and a timing chain

drop the oil pan then the timing cover. put the cover on first and then the pan.

Re: FInding an oil leak

i cant find out where
Take it to the quarter car wash; bring along your ramps; pick up a couple cans of engine degreaser on the way; when you get there, pull it up on the ramps with the engine in the middle of the car wash bay; let it cool down for 10 or 15 minutes, then soak the whole thing with the degreaser, from every angle you can get to it from, makign SURE you get all the places that you think might be leaking (pan gasket for example); wait 5 minutes or so; soak it again; wait 5 more minutes; blast it mercilessly until sterile, from the top, bottom, front, rear, sides, in front of the wheels, behind the wheels, etc. etc. etc.

Just make sure you don't blast directly into any electrical things, and above all, the distributor.

It's a WHOLE LOT easier to spot a leak on a freshly clean surface than on one with a hundred thousand miles of accumulated funk.

Not to mention, when time comes around for working on it, it's a WHOLE LOT less unpleasant to work on a clean motor, than on one where you have to wallow around for days in an inch of slime and goo.

Smog pump been hacked off of it?
