what cam should i go with for my 355 build

im building a new 355 motor with speed pro flat top pistons.10.5 c. vette 113 ported heads.. not sure what cam to go with i was thinking hot cam or zz4 cam. but i think the cc503 seems like a better cam.. this will be on stock ported tpi set for now... but hsr latter on... 700r4 trans with 2200 stall and 342 gears. street car.. lite track.

Re: what cam should i go with for my 355 build

with hsr and xr276hr cam i can say you can hit low 13's to high 12's with a good exhaust i think the part number is 8-503-8 from comp cam id step up the stall a bit to ab 3000 with this cam fora car mainly for the street but u can run the 2200 stall....just wont preform as well but still a good motor

XE274 would be my vote, or maybe the GM#847 if you want to use a GM cam.

dude, go to compcams and download a program called camquest for free! u can play with your options, before and after, and see what cam is best for your application. try it out, its very helpful.

i would have done the CC503 with that setup if you want HSR later on. For TPI the hotcam is a decent choice and will still work great down the road with the HSR

you cant go wrong either way

Re: what cam should i go with for my 355 build

Personally I'd go w/ the 503. It is a better cam w/ better technology than the older style Hotcam. If you have long term goals to get a HSR then get the cam you want for that.

That's what I did. I ran the stock TPI w/ my 227/233 cam for a long time before I just installed the HSR. The car ran fine w/ the TPI and went 13.4 @ 102 w/ the stock TPI a cam that was way to big. Now it will be time to see it pay off!

when i do the HSR i will change cams its just a street car for now. so im trying to stay mild build 350 hp or so if go big i would build a stroker motor.and run a carb. and long tube headers... but thats down the road.
