Re: plz help this is a real buzz kill

Is the engine cutting out and returning to normal when you behave yourself? Or is the engine completely shutting off?
Also need to know what induction you're running.

Hey Ponykilla, please try to express your problem a little more clearly and perhaps we can point you in the right direction.

Re: plz help this is a real buzz kill

In the fuel tank there are baffles to keep fuel at the fuel pump. If your a little low on fuel and those baffles are missing/broken. Doing doughnuts and sideways will result in cutting off.

More than likely you are losing fuel pressure. Is this a carb or tbi tpi what ????

well whipping donuts isn't too good for your car anyway...

I think the last time I whipped some I was "a punk teenager" in MY thirdgen..

I was a "problem child" when I was younger, still am, at 56.

Drove too fast, drank too much, broke my vehicles then fixed them.

Had a good time.

Women, Harley's, vettes, and trouble. still breaking vehicles.

Still having a good time.

Running way too rich can result in more cylinder wear. It can also lead to gasoline accumulating in the oil over time, and that's not a good thing. It all depends on how much too rich you are running. Since you didn't tell us whether black smoke is billowing out of the pipes or not, it's anyone's guess as to how rich you are running.

Re: plz help this is a real buzz kill

For the typical my car does not use a drop of oil.

If when the car is taken on a long trip (one hour warmed up good) and the oil is checked, it is "down a quart". That quart is gasoline that evaporated when the oil got good and hot.

This happens to a putt around town car, rich lumpy idle car, leaking injecter car, and never runs over 160 degree car.

"gasoline accumulating in the oil over time, and that's not a good thing."

"BTW, capital letters and punctuation are free. Please use them liberally."

English class is some where else. This place is about fixing cars (3rd gen)TGO, you know.

They are kind enough, mod's, hosts and sponsors, to allow other TPI, TBI, CCARB, type people to post here.

Thankyou, Hosts.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

A tbi type car has the fuel pump (electric) located in the fuel tank. The pick up filter lives inside a small plastic box. If the fuel tank is low on fuel and the car turns a corner, all the gasoline will move to one side of the tank (long narrow pickup centered middle bottom). This action will uncover (allow air to enter)the fuel pump. No fuel no go. Happens to carbs fuel bowls too.

The plastic box 4"x4"x2" holds fuel around the pick up filter till after completing the turn. The longer the turn, the less fuel in the tank, the more likely this is to happen. If this plastic box is missing or broken this will happen sooner, shorter turn or higher fuel level.

To test fill gas at least 3/4 full, the try doing a circle turn. and see what happens.

Re: plz help this is a real buzz kill

well i just got my car impounded so ill let you know if that is what it is but for some reason i just dont think that is it and my car is not gettin gas in the oil i have already checked that...(im not an idot about cars there for i check thoes kinda things before i buy) but i got her runnin a little more lean and it doesnt affect the power so i think that i should be alright on the runnin rich part but its not chokein out from too much fuel which is what i thought it was in the first place but if it is the "small plastic box" that is allowin my fuel pump to suck air how would i go about fixin that just a part or plz god plz dont tell me that it is a ****** riggin job

to many doughnuts or get sideways in front of a cop? lol j/k
anyways does it die when you sit and roast the tires? if it does than its not a fuel tank problem its somewhere else like tune up area or pump sucks and could be going bad or bad regulator cause your fuel is not moving around and the pump has access to the fuel
if it doesn't die i would go for missing baffles

Re: plz help this is a real buzz kill

search on "Fuel Pump - Not That Bad!" use the quotes.

This is a step by step way to remove the tank to fix fuel pump or look at baffles. If you have never done it before (Est 8 hr).

This is a real good "how to do it" writen by a guy that just did it.

Re: plz help this is a real buzz kill

Dollars to "doughnuts", it's your fuel pickup. Usually happens when you have 1/4 tank or less. I also have a TBI car, and at one point in time, the fuel pump strainer sock was really old and dirty. If I jammed on the brakes and stopped really quick, it'd die every time. But it only did it going forward, never in reverse because the pump is more submerged when all the gas runs towards the back of the tank. I put a Walbro 255 pump and a brand new strainer sock in, and it hasn't done it since. It'll still falter a bit if you take a hard turn with only about an 1/8 tank of gas though. You get the same effect when doing doughnuts, all the gas runs to one side of the tank, leaving the fuel pump sucking air.
