help with MAF to Speed density conversion

My $300 granatelli MAF sensor just took a crap so im done with MAF,anyway i just read the article about this subject and it said something about needing a EPROM programmer for VSS change and VATS disable and ive never done any kind of programming before so im a little intimidated and i was just wondering if i get the wiring harness,ECM,memcal, knock sensor, and MAPsensor off of a 90-92 305 tpi car could i swap it out without any programming?if not whats the cheapest or easiest way to go about this and how much is a EPROM programmer and where do you get one?if somebody would help a brother out and explain this a little more in depth i would really appreciate it,thanks in advance,Joe

Re: help with MAF to Speed density conversion

The VSS change is because of your mechanical speedo in the dash. If you upgrade the entire dash to a 90-92 car also, that would eliminate the need for the VSS change.

The VATS disable is because your car doesn't have VATS. If you grab the VATS box, wiring, steering column and keys (as well as all the door/trunk locks) you can eliminate the VATS disable.

It's alot easier to get a Programmer, or a Ostrich emulator from www.moates.net. With the list of engine mods you have, you'll need to tune the speed density system anyway, so why fight it?

If you get the Ostrich, all you need is a USB port on a computer, and the TunerProRT software (very reasonable cost). It's more expensive than a programmer, but much easier to work with.

If you follow the tech article on the harness re-pinning, you don't need a harness from a SD car.
