Are these cylinder heads good?
Are these cylinder heads good?
Hello all. I am building a small block budget motor with an early 350 4bolt main hydraulic block. I went to the yard and found a set of heads off of an early 3rd gen z-28 Camaro. The car was a tbi car and the heads are cast and centerbolt. I don't have any numbers. Are those heads any good or are they just babies of the 80's junk? Thanks!

Re: Are these cylinder heads good?
I would like to pull about 300-350hp with the engine at the crank. I was planning on using a cam with a lift around .500. As far as torque, anywhere between 300-350. I hpoe that this is not out of reason.
Re: Are these cylinder heads good?
Thanks for the help, I was trying to do this all on a budget of about $600, I have just a block and crank, summit has a whole kit with bearings, pistons, and all the gaskets for $200. I guess I will just go aluminum.

On this subject, I am running a ZZ4 crate engine that has the L98 heads, I have not been impressed by their specs. I would like to go with Victor JR heads, but I cannot justify the cost.

If you can only justify $600, you might want to drop that into a die grinder and some bits. For about $400 total you can really kick those L98 heads up a notch.
There was one guy on here that went, "max effort" on those heads and got some downright amazing (unbelievable?) results. I think he made 3 separate threads. On the TPI forum. Something like 270cfm at .600" lift was the final result.
