Question about Spark Plugs
I was just wondering what are some of you guyz using as a plug on a pretty much stock 350 TPI except free-mods? My mechanic told me to ditch the Bosch Platinum 2's I just put on it and grab some AC Delco's, what do you guys think?
Re: Question about Spark Plugs
AC Delco, I think it is an r45ts? if i remember right, i got some out in my garage, i guess i can go look if no one else knows.

Re: Question about Spark Plugs
a lot of guys here really prefer the delcos or the autolites...I personally prefer bosch plugs (the regular ones), but any of the +2 or +4 or whatever multi prong plugs are

Re: Question about Spark Plugs
there is no need to run platinum plugs since we wont benefit from them so go grab the ac delcos or autolites . i tried platinums 11 yrs ago.big error on my part.

Re: Question about Spark Plugs
okay my problem is this, I originally had bosch platinum 4's when I bought my car, Car ran great as hell. I changed them to autolite's which reduced performance, I recently did a spark plug, wires, car and rotor change using accel parts and bosch platinum 2 spark plug which resulted in a misfire. My engine guy said that the problem lies in the bosch 2's, he says their crap and to go to Delco spark plugs. Whew... Now do you suggest this or what?

yes i agree with what your engine guy suggested since those bosh platinums do have a tendency to cause a missfire due to the type of ignition system that we have in our vehicles. alot of the newer cars are designed to run on platinum plugs and thier ignition system is manufactured with different schematics and power outputs.

i beg to differ on auto lite since auto lites are just the same as an ac plug.

Re: Question about Spark Plugs
yes it is possible it is also a good idea to check the spark plug gap to because you never know when a plug could be dropped by a parts person thus closing the gap a little or closing it completely the gap should be .045"

Re: Question about Spark Plugs
So, I did a lil research real quick and i've came to the conclusion that I am going to and should replace the accel cap, rotor, and spark plug wires.
More than likely I will replace with Hypertech car, rotor, coil and use MSD StreetFire Wires. sound like a good choice?

Re: Question about Spark Plugs
there is nothing wrong with the accel cap, rotors or wires unless you have not changed then in 2-3 years. i would run accel wires but i cant due to the excessive heat from my headers so yes i have to run msd products. but for stock replacement they are just fine(accel)

Re: Question about Spark Plugs
Hi everyone.Mine is 84 trans am 5.0 lt stock engine with 220,000 km's on it.Yesterday i bought Bosch Platinum plus spark plugs(cost $10/pair) and accel spark plug wire pack(cost $49.99) ( which was recommended by partsource guy)
Some of the guys mentioned earlier that after installing bosch plat plus, they get misfire and other issues.I havent installed them yet,so i am not sure to go ahead with this installation or go back to store n grab Acdelco. My decision will be based on everybody's experience.
Please let me know ur recommendations.

Re: Question about Spark Plugs
as I posted before I've used bosch plats and supers for years in all kinds of cars without any problems, not caused by other issues (rich fuel, oil fouling et al). I don't think I've ever used accel wires, but I've used the generic 7mm parts store sets before without a hassle. I currently use MSD usually, cause I can buy them at the local speed warehouse for less than I can buy the cheap stuff at azone or advance.
my biggest recommendation when doing plug wires in general and especially with an F body is make sure you keep them away from headers/manifolds. Get looms and stand offs, zip tie them to other wire harnesses, whatever it takes to keep them away from the exhaust and keep them from rubbing on other components.
With plugs always and I mean always check your gaps on each plug, never trust the "factory" gap. and stay away from the "gimmick" plugs, extra grouding straps a la +2 or +4 or whatever don't do jack except cost more.
