383 question
383 question
Hey guys im new to the world of 3rd gen owners i recently bought a 90 camaro rs that has a 305 tbi motor. Ive been planning on swapping a 350 into it well i got the great idea of turning that 350 into a 383 and i just want to know if i should have it carborated of fuel injection since everything i see on horse power charts for 383's is having them being carborated. Id rather have it fuel injected but what should i use?

Re: 383 question
its all gonna be based on what you want. you have to consider your power goals, your driveability goals, your costs involved, emissions, etc
You can go either way, fuel injected or carb. Each one is capable of handling a 383.
Each one will make similar power depending on what intake you use.
Carbs are tuned mechanically by fuel jets in the carb, while EFI uses computers and tuning software to make changes. both are fairly easy to do if you have the knowledge of how to do it
I'd say EFI takes more to time and effort understand but can deliver better driveablity and tuning capabilities over carb. Plus it looks cooler i feel
So what do you have in mind for this car?

Re: 383 question
your best bet for fuel injection would be to find a LT1 motor OR an LS1 motor. That way you can easily find tuners for them or get mail orders
Else find/buy a 89 TPI wiring harness and mass air sensor and get a holley stealth ram setup. You'll need all the old TPI sensors to convert over. This is the make or break of the cost to make it a EFI car. Buying new is gonna run up the price, buying used or finding deals is the best way to keep costs down
Carb may be cheaper and easier if you only plan to street drive every once in a while and make it a track car

Re: 383 question
I prefer fuel injection on everything I own. I even have plans to inject my '71 Firebird when I build its motor, but there is alot to be said for the ease and simplicity of slapping on a carb and going for a ride.
