What is the 1987 LG4 rev limiter setting?

From the looks of it with 28" tires 2.73:1 gears and a T5 with a .73:1 over drive it looks like my car is geared to do well over 200mph...

I've never heard of a rev limiter in the LG4, other than the valve springs. Never heard of a speed limiter, either. Pretty much moot with 165 HP.

I know you're kidding, but with only 130 or so hp at the wheels, you'll be hard pressed to get anywhere near 200. Drag increases exponentially as speed increases linearly, you'd hit a wall long before you redlined it in 4th gear.

Well as you can see, I am implying a pair of gears would be money well spent.
To the best of my memory I believe it takes over 500 hp to achieve speeds in excess of 185 mph. I was merely pointing at how ludicrous my gearing is; possibly to in form other people that have factory automatic cars with a t5 installed the importance of regearing their car. Or possibly to help us understand what is safe under what circumstances. Where would you suppose the valve floating would commence? Under what circumstances?
It doesn't matter the reason I made the post just as long as some one learns something from it.

We're just lucky the 700r4's first gear is so ridiculously low.

I got a T56 waiting to go in my car but a 2.66 first gear and a 2.73 final gear is absolutely ludicrous, so I'm working on getting something better before the swap happens.

Re: What is the 1987 LG4 rev limiter setting?

My speedometer doesn't work but doing the math I hit 55mph in first at just over 5k and WOW does this thing sound great at 5k. This is the first time i have pushed it this far and I couldn't hear anything but a healthy engine, I usually drive in the 1,000-2,000rpm range and didn't realize what 5k was like I mean 4th gear 120mph is only 3,800rpm!

on the 32 chips there are rpm and speed limits, for a vette 254 mph and 10,000 rpm. with chip burning equipment these can be set lower.

thank you I knew there had to be something, how far do you think it is safe to push it with a stock valve train.

Re: What is the 1987 LG4 rev limiter setting?

Found a long stretch of highway early morning and punched it. I had a friend follow me in his newer car that could hit 150. I got my LT to 130 mph. After that it seemed like it it needed something more to make it quicker. Mind you, this was before I had installed the headers, larger exhaust and dual snorkle.
