Carb, intake and max RPM

Ive been debating on swaping my Summit TPI cam and Performer intake out for a bigger cam and Performer RPM intake on my 305. The hp doesnt drop off untill 5000 rpms and tq drops at 3700 rpm. At the time I was using an Edelbrock 600 carb. I swap'd out the edelbrock for a 600 Holley and will be tuning it in a few weeks on the gas. The motor still has the 416 heads but they are fresh. How much will these heads support and flow well with a carb setup. What combos did you run and have luck with? The trans is a th350 with a 2400 nitrous holeshot and 3.23 gears.

The heads will support more with some port clean-up, and even more with 1.94" intake valves.

Ported World S/R 305 heads on Berlinetta #1, you can see how "poorly" it performs with what's in the sig below.

Re: Carb, intake and max RPM

if the motor drops off at 5000, i wouldnt shift higher than 5500. Depending on your valvetrain you can spin it to 6000 but with that combo it doesnt make sense

Wanting more power but I dont want to do a cam and intake to only gain 5-10 hp because the stock heads are gonna hold it back. Im sitting at 178hp/229tq right now and would like to be more in the 190hp/240 tq range with this setup. Now that I have a holley carb I think that we can play with the timing and fuel to get it closer to that. The a/f can be leaned up about 1.5 numbers. Im also looking for some lope, the tpi cam sounds good when its cold but it idles like a stocker when its warm.
