Serpentine Belt Guys

Does the AC brace go from the rear of the compressor to the third manifold stud?

Re: Serpentine Belt Guys

I don't believe so. The bottom bolt for the A/C compressor actually has the head of the bolt facing the cylinder head and is like a 1" stubby bolt. The bolt that goes into the block is the top bolt for the smog pump or delete pulley.

Re: Serpentine Belt Guys

James, if you are installing the GM serp kit then yes the brace bolts to the forward bolt hole of the #4 cyl using the longer of the spacers in the kit. The other side is attached to the stud toward the outside edge of the compressor. I have done this install using the "deluxe" kit. If you have any more ?'s, ask away

Thanks, I appreciate your input. I am using the GM kit. The stud toward the outside edge of the bracket is supposed to be torqued to 37 lb. ft. Does that bottom the stud out on the front bracket?

Re: Serpentine Belt Guys

I have the stock serp setup on my 89 Formula. Is the new serp setup different than the one I have?

Re: Serpentine Belt Guys

James, the stud should be installed so that 1-1/2 threads show on the front side. You are actually only torquing the nut on the back after installing that brace. Boss355, the GM aftermarket serp kits are basically stock components set up in a generic package. It also is designed to eliminate the AIR pump(for use on vehicles that never had one, uh-huh) replaced by an idler pulley and changes the belt routing from your stock pattern. hope this helps

Excellent. Hopefully I button that portion up today (probably would have yesterday but I lost the spacer in the engine bay for 30 minutes or more) and get on with the install. Any chance, squirted, your car is carbed?

Re: Serpentine Belt Guys

I have everything assembled (I falsely believed I'd cross threaded a bolt for a while), but I need to do some wiring which should go smoothly. I appreciate your help, squirted.
