im not to sure where to post this. but ill post it here.

my car is parked on my driveway and the driveway is on abit of a slant.
here is how my car sits right now.



what would be the easyest way to remove the engine? im thinking removing all the parts from the engine.
cly heads, intake, manifolds, and jus having the engine block and remove it then? or should i take the engine out complete?
I tryed searching Engine removal in the search but i get like page after page after page on everything with the word removal in it. from headlight to the wheels. its driving me insine.

 

On my old car, I tore the motor down to the long block, and used a lift chain bolted to the heads. I prefer to leave the heads on, it's not much fun lifting them out of the engine bay by hand (they're freakin heavy). Also, I pulled the engine and trans out together. Some people like to pull just the engine, but it's not that much more work to remove the trans, and I hate getting under the car to disconnect the torque converter, and bellhousing bolts. I'd rather do that stuff with the engine out of the car. Also, remove the radiator to avoid damage. You can opt to leave the intake manifold on, it doesn't really get in the way, but pulling the distributor is a must, or it will hit the firewall when you try to tilt the motor back. If you pull the engine and trans out together, you'll probably need a helper. I usually get the motor/trans up at about a 45* angle, roll it forward until the trans is touching the radiator support, then pick up the tailshaft, and swing it over. Just be careful not to get under it in case it falls.

 

thats what i was thinking of doing. taking out the Trans with the Engine. to much of a hassle trying to drop the tranny and trying to slide it out.

i think ill rent a engine hoist on the weekend and try and see if i can remove the engine.

 

bag up the tail shaft on the trans so it don't leak on the floor

alright i got the Radiator out, all the pullie acceories out. since im going to be doing manual breaks and manual steering. im removing that also for alittle more extra room when pulling the engine.
im also removing the exhaust manifold. but i cant get the bolts off the end of the manifold where the Y pipe connects. so ill be playing around with that tommorrow.

 

Buy the adapter from princess auto, on sale now for $7. Bolts to your intake manifold. Not sure if it'll work in place of a TBI though. Otherwise buy some 3/8" chain and a few bolts and make it happen.

 

yeah i was woundering about getting the adapter thing that bolts to the intake but i wasnt sure if it will fit since its TBI.
i was just going to go to the hardware store. and pick me up afew bolts and get a chain and go for it.

should i take the intake Manifold off for removing the engine? and should i remove the oil from the engine? this is the 1st time ever for me removing an engine.

oh before i remove the engine. is there any hidden bolts anywhere? i dont want to yank the motor out and have a bolt that i missed or couldnt see.
im taking the tranny out same time as the engine.

 

prolly some ground wires ur gonna miss as u pull the engine.. i missed one on the drivers side head.. label label and label stuff makes it easyer for reinstallation. use bags for bolts with labels for each part it goes in to..

i had to stand on my trans as it got pulled out of the car.. to keep it from hitting the tunnel

 

well tommorrow im going to rent a hoist hopefully. i pulled all the wires out from the ECM. its going to be carbed and not going to be my daily driver. so i didnt need that. and i im going to be getting new mounts and everything for the new engine so ill be buying new bolt and whatnot. and i was going to rewire the engine and everything. i dont like having a messy engine bay full of useless wires and plugs.

i unbolted the tranny from its mounts. same with the engine. only thing i need to do is unbolt the driveshaft and it will be ready to be yanked out of there.
but im not to sure where to store the engine and tranny!!

 

if you're renting a hoist, get the longest boom you can. Mine is a standard, not a problem getting the motor out, but a major PITA to back get in. I had to have the whole car off the ground and slide my hoist from the side, under the tire to get close enough. From the front, I was about 3/8" from making solid connection with the bell housing.

 

I would say that it is easiest to pull the motor and trans together just due to the reinstall periord. good luck with it though.

i am pulling the engine and trans togeather.
