Engine leaking oil TERRIBLY....PLEASE HELP!!!

hello, i just purchased a 1982 camaro berlinetta that originally came with a 5.0 305, but was replaced with a rebuilt 5.7 350 lt1 engine. There are a few things wrong with it at the moment.
1. Oil is leaking from the front of the engine towards the passenger side. It won't leak as much if i dont gas it. When i gas it, it leaks A LOT. There is even oil on the underside of the hood. I also notice whenever i put oil in it so it's full, the exhaust will have a TON of smoke coming out of it (definetely oil, smells like it.)
2. I have no idea what the oil pressure is. I have an oil pressure gauge, but it isn't reading anything. any ideas of how to hook it up?

i just got done checking out the fuel pump, and that would seem to be the problem. there is oil all over the tubes, so i dont think the tubes are tight. if this is the problem, would this explain why there is oil burning through the exhaust?? or is there something else wrong?

Dude, you got a major problem if it is burning out the exhaust. Valve stem seals in the cyl. heads are bad and need to get a valve job or the piston rings are worn and time to rebuild your lower half of the engine.

What do you mean by burning through the exhaust? Is your exhaust coming out blue, or do you mean theres oil leaking on the outside of the exhaust pipe and burning off from the heat? Or is oil leaking out the exhaust manifold/ headers?

Re: Engine leaking oil TERRIBLY....PLEASE HELP!!!

first LT1s dont have a mech. fuel pump boss....

dont bother trying to guess at where the leak is coming from... clean the engine completely without getting ANY water on the optispark... wipe it all dry and start the engine and watch for the oil... probably just to the left of the balancer...

fix the leak first as that is major the buring oil is minor....

do you notice any smoke when the engine is first started? how about after sitting for a few minutes and restarting?

but the next thing to do is check your PCV valve... not in the "normal" location on the valve cover but stuck into the drivers side of the intake manifold pull it out and make sure it rattles

then a cylinder leak down test to confirm the condition of the piston rings...
