hope this is the right section to post...i was hearing a loud ticking noise thought it was coming from the distributer but with a hose i found out it was coming from the egr solenoid...need some info on this part...whats it do? what problems will it cause??

 

i did a search did find anything early before i made my original post but stupid me spelled solenoid wrong lol...i think i found what i need but if you got any info feel free to share...

 

anybody know how to check the egr solenoid?

 

If you put the ECM in test mode (key on, engine off with the two pins shorted like you were reading the codes) it will open the solenoid. If it's open you can blow air through it. It should be closed otherwise.

 

with the part off the car i can blow threw the solenoid so im guessing its bad...its making a very loud ticking noise on the car during idle...and car starts to run ruff...i tested egr itself and it help a vacuum...thx for info was curious on how to test it...
