new engine, old wiring, need help

working on a project car for 5 years or so now, i can get in and drive around but its far from complete. when first got it the engine/transmission where toast. The transmission went out when the guy was going down the road and he decied to rev like crazy till the engine blew. good for me bad for him. well i got an engine from a monty carol that was smokin. pulled it apart and found selveral piston skirts where broken. i didnt know what i was doing but still wanted to pull it apart anyway. had a guy come get the engine replace the pistons, crackshaft/ more other interal things, i did upgrade the cam with a comp cam. makes it sound mean. replaced the water pump/ timing chain. also replaced the intake manifold and bought a 650 edelbrock carb. engine in. bought another camaro that had a 3 or 3 1/2 inch exhaust and a corvette looking hatch. i salvaged those for my car. had an exhaust place weld my Y pipe to the exhaust of the other car. pulled all the interior out of the car sanded the floors and painted them with rust cover. now five years later would like to do some electrial repair(i mean replace)

right now, i would like to fix the wiring under the hood. i actually build harness for a company, but i dont design them. they give me a diagram i construct it. so i have all the tools connectors and contacts to this job. problem is i have no idea how the car harness workings. plus its not stock,

would also like to install a relay into the headlight harness to give better amps.

all that said, anyway to get a underthe hood diagram i can go by,
my car has lots of wires not connected and others that are in real bad shape.

It would be nice to know what year your car is, and what engine/induction/transmission it had/has.

Basically, anything attached to the harness coming from the passenger side fenderwell can be pulled out as one piece - pull the plastic liner from the fender, and you'll see where you can unplug it.

If you have an automatic transmission with lock-up torque converter, you'll want/need the 4-wire plug that goes to the transmission for TCC lock-up. Otherwise, sounds like you've got everything hooked up but the choke wire - which is ignition switched.

You also need to get a vacuum hose to the vacuum advance on the distributor from one of those front ports, and block off the other port.

Re: new engine, old wiring, need help

The three pronged connector looks like the one for the tps, the other is too blurry to tell but due to the location it may be for the diverter valve for the a.i.r. system. There is no vaccum line on your vacc canister on on your dist. For what you are running there you actually need very little wiring. For the electric choke you need to 12v switched source.

Was this origionally a tuned port car? Also the hatch you found there is a notchback hatch, its either an origional that someone put a maro soiler on (its origionally from a firebird) or an aftermarket reproduction.

Re: new engine, old wiring, need help

thanks all for your reply, and its an automatic transmission so i need the lockup converter, the transmission is a 7004 i think but the casting is really bright, i got it from the same car i got that hatch from. I'm not sure what size the engine is only that its a v8 small block, the Monte i stole it from wasn't its stock engine. i do know that the pistons say .030 on them when i had the engine apart. i took the engine apart, then had someone else rebuilt it for me cam(competition cam, mild. not sure what that means but that is the one i bought)/pistons/crankshaft that i know of where replaced.. the engine smoked when i bought it and wanted my setup to last so i had it rebuilt. the motor that came with my car was seized, so i didn't even mess with it.

it was a basically the same as i have now when i got it, just had a different engine and the quadrijet setup. i will decode the vin number later and see if that is what it was factory.

i really appreciate that the choke wire is switched, there is a green wire that runs next to the carb that isnt plugged into anything, i will test it later and see if its a switched power source, would be great if it was.

also i have the high resolution to these pictures, just there large in space.

where does the tps go?, there is a single just like it not plugged into anything.

ill go after i get of work, and i draw a rough diagram, when its finished ill post it.
