when your adjusting the lash make sure that you tighten it so that you can still turn the pushrod between your fingers and tighten it up to just before u can't turn it without forcing it.. then the valve will be set.. then give it a 1/3 turn to "lock it in"

There's nothing wrong with doing it one cylinder at time through the firing order. It just takes longer and you have no real way to tell if the lifter is on the base circle of the cam.
There are a number of ways to adjust the valves and none are the wrong way.
Some people make sure the piston is at TDC on the compression stroke and adjust the intake and the exhaust on that cylinder.
Some people watch when one rocker is fully open, they adjust the other.
I use the timing mark on the balancer. When 1 or 6 is at TDC, I adjust half the valves. Rotate the crank one full turn until 1 or 6 is at TDC then adjust the other half of the valves. If you use the forum search feature on adjusting valves, you can see the sequence I use.
All three methods work. As for how much to adjust them, as mentioned above, providing they're hydraulic lifters, adjust the rocker just enough to take the play out of the pushrod. Then adjust it 1/2 turn more and move on to the next rocker. This 1/2 turn puts the recommended .040" - .060" preload in the lifter.
