what does a zz4 cam do

Or for that matter any cam like it.

Talking about when a camshaft has a big gap between the intake and exhaust side.

ZZ4 cam is something like .47/.51 lift and 208/210 duration.

What is a cam like that good for vs something like an lt4 hotcam where youre getting .492/.492 lift.

Whats the difference between the two and why is that the case?

Makes up for the relatively poor exhaust port flow.

Re: what does a zz4 cam do

The exhaust duration is a lot more than that. On the intake side it is listed as 208.

Re: what does a zz4 cam do

sorry 210 was a typo should be 220

Ya ended up having this conversation with someone else and he mentioned to make up for poor exhaust scavenging qualities of most all sbc heads.

So in what case does a cam like the LT4 hotcam become a good choice where the intake/exhaust matches

Re: what does a zz4 cam do

yes when you start upgrading the exhaust side ...ie 1.6 or bigger valves serious cleanup of the ports long tube headers 5-6 angle valve seats swirl polished under cut valves....

that is when you will start to see an improvement with a single pattern cam
