I have a 350 that has been bored .30 over has a balanced crank, intake, carb,headers,cam, how much do you think it may cost to stroke it to a 383? just parts.

can the 350 be stroked to make it larger than 383?

 

i believe 40 over makes a 385? i really cant remember. it really isnt worth spending money to get the engine rebored unless the clywalls are abit damaged then i would get it redone.
you can probably get a 383 crank off ebay or something for fairly cheap.
i havnt really been looking for a cast crank, i been just searching for a forged crank and the cheapest i found so far from a well named brand was about $550. i saw somewhere tho for a crank for $250 or so bucks for a cast 383 crank. or you can get the crank from the 400 block somewhere.

 

You can stroke a 350 with
3.75" stroke, and get a 383, if you also have a .030"over bore.
3.85" stroke and get a 396, if you also have a .030" over bore (I think)
4.0" stroke and get a 408, if you also have a .030" overbore.

3.75" stroke pistons are about the same price as normal 350 pistons, no biggie. The pistons to fit the 3.85" and 4.0" stroke are much more rare, less choice, and more expensive. They aren't terribly common. You need to clearance the block a lot (use hard-blok), and you need a small base circle cam and cap screw rods. It's almost better to just find a 400cid small block and skip a lot of those 'custom' hassles.

 

i also have a 400 sbc what can I stroke that out too? i was gonna put in my TA but i didnt wanna rebuild it yet, so how much you think it would be for parts to stroke the 400 ?

 

To do your 350 - I went with a internal balanced 383 crank so i could use my 350 harmonic balancer... If you have a 400 sbc and a 350, you'd be best off to get the 400 crank machined to the 350 mains, (around $300) replace all the main and rod bearings, if you re-use your 5.70 rods, you'd just need a set of 383 pistons and rings. You'll also need the harmonic balancer and flywheel off the 400 if you dont go with an internally balanced crank. I put some clay on my pistons and bolted on the heads to do a test revolution to make sure valves didnt hit the pistons. Do some calculations on compression ratio to select the right size pistons (dished/dome or flat-top), and i was told to watch that the rods clear the sides of the block also, although it wasnt an issue for me, one of my co-workers had to do a bit of die grinding on the block just for clearance (nothin serious though).
