tuning rebuilt carb... before or after new ignition???

i am finally finishing rebuilding my carbuoretor, and am wondering, how much tuning i should do with my old ignition setup before putting my new ignition setup on?

[new ignition setup: digital mallory VI-AL cd ignition, matching billet distributer, and 51,000 V coil, w/ msd 8.5mm superconductor plug wires]

I would get all that new ignition in there and then tune the carb. Barry Grant says you should even have your timing set just right before you even start messing with the carb. So just get those ign parts installed, set your timing, and go from there.

good luck

you dont think that swapping all of the ignition over first would make it harder to tune/get it to run correctly?

it should actually be easier to tune the carb after the ignition upgrades

Is the old ignition the computer controlled dist? Replace the ccc-qjet with a holley? If so, you can tune to the old setup but the stock dist won't get the commands it needs to properly advance the timing.

Either way, always set timing and tune up your ignition before touching the carb.

no, it was non cc long before the rebuild, and i didnt know if it would be harder to set up after everything was changed over.

If it's working fine now go ahead and adjust the carb. Just make sure the timing's set properly, advance is good and it's all in working order. It's hell trying to tune out a mis-fire with an idle mixture screw.
