Why roller lifters? You already have roller lifters.

You can put on the roller rockers. Won't really do much either way.

Ok, ask yourself this.

First off, it's a 305. Second, it has almost 300,000 miles on it. Is it really worth dumping ANY money into other than maintenance?

Save your money for a new engine, or you're just going to throw it away.

Then just wait until it dies. Don't buy parts for it. Just take the "hydraulic roller rockers" from your new 350 and put them on.

Roller rockers requires machining for guide plates..... removing the heads, and spending more money, and it won't make much of a difference.

#1, I'd just put them on the 350 BUT....Don't let the "305 haters" bother you.... 310cui w/356hp Lots of 350 owners just wish they had that...Yes, more cui = more hp, but a 350hp 310cui is nothing to sneeze at!

There is no point in messing with a engine with that much mileage but there is nothing wrong with 305s. If you put vortec heads and a decent cam on a 305 you can get some good street HP numbers.

Re: Roller rockers on a 276,000 mile stock 305

I have always used guide plates and hardened push rods with rollers. I was always told it was necessary, but never understood why. The roller tip goes on the valve... not the rod. I thought i was told that for stability reasons. I stand corrected. I'm only using slotted and stamped stockers.

Re: Roller rockers on a 276,000 mile stock 305

You only need guide plates if you are installing non-self aligning rockers.

Leave your 305 where it is. When it does die, simply have the new 350 ready to drop in its place and be prepared to tune.
