serpentine pullys for crank and alt.

what would the best way to go as far as converting the crank and alt pullys to serpentine? i am probably going to be going to an electrical water pump and have no a/c power steering or any smog stuff.

You could find a wrecked late 80s GM car to salvage the mounts and accessories/pulleys. There used to be a company in florida that sold kits like this for a few hundred shipped, probably one of the best things I ever did for my camaro. With only the crank and alternator.. and probably a tensioner, I'm not sure exactly how it'd work out though.

Re: serpentine pullys for crank and alt.

The v-belt alternator is different, not just the pulley. The plug on it is different too, but it can be rewired. I did it on my old car, it wasn't really hard at all. I got all of the brackets, bolts, and accessories from a junkyard car, and used that alternator as a core on a new one. Also, you will probably need an A/C delete pulley, otherwise you won't be able to use the belt tensioner. The serpentine brackets have no adjustment in them like v-belt ones do, you have to use the tensioner to get the belt tight. To be honest, if you're only going to be running an alternator, serpentine is probably overkill, a single v-belt should do the job fine.

Re: serpentine pullys for crank and alt.

I just replaced my crank pulley for the one in my 86 ta since it has a serpentine groove for the alt. and a v-belt groove for the ps pump. Had to also chamge the alt. pulley for the serpentine pulley I had laying around on my serpentine alt for my 88 ta and works great, I kept popping the belt on my alt with the v-belt at high rpms and the serpentine works great
