good air cleaner for a carbed 350

i know this is a stupid question, but what would be the best air cleaner for a weekend warrior/track car?

i have heard alot of negative things about k&n around here and i have ran that on my mustang with no issues for a long time.

so what should i go for?

here are the requirements...

*has to clear the 84 hood.
*maximum air flow
*what would be a good drop base?
*has to be able to repel water.

....in case he goes mud bogging. C'mon Tim, use your imagination eh?

impaled - the 'jury' is still out as to what is better, but a common 2-3" open air cleaner (drop base) vs the stock style dual snorkle.
Snorkels give cooler air, but the open gives more (hot) air.

If you don't have a cowl hood, I don't think you need to worry about water any more then everyone else (not at all).
