Engine won't turn over
First off the battery in the Z is dead, so I'm trying to jump start it. I've jump started my Z countless times over the years, and today is no different.
Here's the situation this time.
The Z has been sitting for 7 months with the starter out while I installed Hooker LT's and swapped out the tranny.
Today I try to jump start it and the engine cranks 1/4 revolution, then a bunch of clicks from the starter, then the engine cranks 1/4 revolution, then another series of clicks from the starter, and then the whole cycle repeats endlessly. The starter will not crank the engine over. It acts as if the battery is weak, but it can't be that because I have it hooked up to a running car trying to jump start it.
I've eliminated a few things already.
- All wiring checked for solid connections, cleaned, etc.
- Starter is less than two years old, heat protected.
- Starter works and spins when bench tested.
- Starter also works when using all the wiring in my Z, and bench tested while it sits on the floor under my Z.
- The problem above occurs when I bolt it up to the block and it tries to spin the flywheel to start it.
I cleaned all the wires and connections of any oils, etc. I made certain all connections are tight. Again the starter will spin if I take it out and bench test it. I put it in the Z and I get the problem noted above. This has never happened in the past, so any ideas?

Re: Engine won't turn over
i've had this problem before, and it was due to the battery beeing sooooooo dead that i could not even jump start it off another car or off a battery charger. just replace the battery, it needs to be done anyway.

Ok that was the problem. The battery in the Z was too dead. I wasn't thinking clearly considering the battery is less than a year old I figured it had enough to still jump start it.
So, new battery and it fired right up.
Thanks
