Engine will not start 90 camaro 3.1 MPFI
Engine will not start 90 camaro 3.1 MPFI
This is not your typical won't start problem.
Last week, our camaro of 19 years was struck mid driver side door through the rear quarter panel just a few miles from our house. The body work is not severe, but the car has lost some of its original charm.
My wife drove the car home (4 miles) without any issue. That evening, I noticed some paint on the rear tire, so I decided to drive the car to determine if there was any rear axle vibration.
I could tell almost immediately that the car was not as responsive as usual. In the first two miles, the car seemed to miss on occasion. Near 3 mile, I attempted to accelerate, and the car kind of "buckled". When I let out of the gas, the car seemed to sooth out (will doing about 35 mph). Soon, I could not press the accelerator at all with out the engine "buckling".
I attempted to turn around and head for home, but the car died in a drive way. I was able to start the car (normally start). I backed into the road, and the car died. After a few hours, I had the car towed to my house.
Before towing the car, I checked the following. No codes - just 12s. One spark plug had spark when I turned the key and laid it up against the engine. Spark plug appeared dry (no fuel). I can hear the fuel pump start with the key on. I loosened the pressure fuel line at the engine and gas sprayed out of the fitting before retightening. Looks like I have gas and spark.
For the next few day, I left the car sit while the insurance companies did their investigation. On about day five, I turned the key and the car started (normal start). As soon as I stepped on the gas pedal, the car died. I started the car again (normal start), and was able to rev the engine for 15-30 seconds. Car running at normal idle, when I put the car in drive, the car stalled. Started the car again (hard to start). Revved engine, drove car forward and backwards (10 feet) for 1 minute with out any problems. I turned the car off. I started the car again (normal start) and moved the car to a different spot (30 feet away). I turned off the car.
Two hours later, I went to start the car to take it for a test spin. The car started hard and ran for 5 seconds and died. I started again; the car ran for 3 seconds and died. I started again; the car ran for 1 second and died.
I let it sit for 6 days, and today, the car will not start. No error codes (just 12).
Any thoughs on how I should go about troubleshooting this problem?
