Leaking coolant on new build through heads

I am running new AFR 210 CFM 75cc heads with ARP Head Studs and MLS head gaskets.

I am getting a little fustrated with this problem. Have a brand new 355 Rebuild and I am loosing antifireeze. After I put the intake on the car and adjusted the valves, set the distrib, etc. the car started right up. I almost immediately noticed a problem after the car ran for 10 minutes with puddles of Antifreeze on the top of the heads. next to the valves, but mostly on the head studs. You can see pics on

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2423655

At 1st I thought my builder didn't put sealant on the rocker studs as I know they pass directly into the heads and antifreeze can free flow through them. I pulled all the rocker studs and put high temp sealant on them, retorqued them, set the valves and started it again. Same problem but not as bad.
I refilled the antifreeze and marked the Reservoir tank so I know know how full it was. I restarted the car and let it run for 10 mintues. After letting it sit for 15 minutes, I could see what appeared to be small air bubbles coming from the center head studs. I immediately thought the idiot didn't put sealant on these either. I removed 1 at a time and found a very small amount of silicone sealant on each on bottom of the thread where it screws into the block, but not much. I did apply high temp sealant to these also and retorqued each to 70ft LB then continued until all center head studs were done. I am still losing antifreeze. Last night I started the car, after 15 mintues of running the line didn't move until after I shut it down and let it sit for 1/2 hour and the line dropped 1/2 to 3/4 inch. I remarked the line and restarted it again after it fully cooled down. It dropped another 1/2 to 3/4 inch again.

I know I have to change the oil again as it is contamintated with Antifreeze. Getting expensive. I need to get this fixed.

1. What do you think my next move should be?
2. What would be best sealant be for the Rocker studs and Head studs?
3. Are there any other holes in the heads that I should address?
4. What should the proper torque be for the head studs?

Re: Leaking coolant on new build through heads

My first guess is that the coolant is still leaking past the treads along the head bolts. What thread sealer did you use?

Question, was the block decked?

Re: Leaking coolant on new build through heads

I purchased some high temp thread sealant from Auto-Zone, Part No# 59214p.

The block was evenly decked. On a new block, I had it deck clearanced on both sides and make them even. I would have to find the build sheet to give you exact numbers. He did not 0 deck clearance the block. A number that keeps sticking to my head is .030 though. But, I am not sure that is correct.
I too think I am losing Anti-freeze through the head bolts. Are the center bolt holes the only ones that antifreeze can pass through?
I am also running Felpro 1206 intake manifold gaskets. But I don't feel them are the problem

Re: Leaking coolant on new build through heads

All the head bolts enter the coolant passage areas in the block and should be treated with thread sealer.

Re: Leaking coolant on new build through heads

I ordered new MLS head gaskets today from SUMMIT Part NO# Fpp1142 ouch... 75.95 each.. I am going to start again and tear down this block and fix it right. I don't need this headache as of now.
