I'm pretty sure its the starter....
This car has just been problem after problem since I bought it -_-'
Anyway, yesterday(while on a date to) My car wouldn't start up when we came back from eating. It had a strong attempt at turning over first and then it just went to "click click click". It had been fine all day starting up like usual right until that point
Before I bought the car though, the man replaced the starter in it(had to wait a week to get it because of that). Which makes me think its not the starter..or they didn't fix the problem that caused the starter to go out.
Now a little info about my car. Its a 1988 Iroc-Z 305TPI. It idles pretty high at around 1500RPM in park and like 800-1100 in Drive or any other gear. Its been overheating lately cause I still haven't replaced the secondary fan motor but it has only ever gotten over 220 maybe 4times? Its always been a little hard to startup anyway but it started up strong.
Two owners before me the guy shaved the door handles and really ****ed the wiring in the radio area because of it.
Any ideas other than the start or is that what is defiantly is?

sounds more like the battery is not keeping its charge and if its idling too high id try the tps id definitely get that fan motor fixed or your going to end up with a lot more problems than your battery

throttle position sensor, don't worry about that yet though, get the car running and go from there. IF the battery is good and charged check the connections on the starter and make sure they are clean/tight, also check the ground to the block and the connections to the battery. If the starter and battery is good and the connections are clean and tight it will turn over. If the battery itself is good but discharged figure out what caused that, wether it be a bad alternator, or something causing a parasidic draw with the engine off. When you say according to the gauge it has plenty of juice to turn the engine over, are you saying you installed an amperage gauge or are you talking about the factory voltage gauge? It can still have proper voltage and not enough amperage to have a hope in hell or turning the starter.

Ok...apparently it IS the battery. Because my doors wouldn't open and I had to crawl in through the trunk to get it off the wrecker.
The alternator works fine at least I'm assuming because I drive normally everyday to work, which is about a 15m drive, then I drive to my other job about 5m then home about 15m drive. Giving the alternator about 30m to actually charge the battery a day. Now, I didn't work Friday, Saturday, and I used it Sunday to go to the movies and then taco bell(her choice by the way :P im not cheap lol). Its about a 20m drive to her house, and then another 30 to the movies from there. Now, from the movies to Taco Bell its only a 2m drive(unless you hit one of the 4 red lights every quarter mile). And it started up fine between The movies and Taco Bell.
So the alternator didn't have time to charge it between the movies and Taco Bell. But the question is..what would make a battery not hold a charge? Its only about 1 month old and wasn't new when I bought it(low on money at the time).

get the alternator tested at advance auto or autozone. my first replacement alternator caused issues because it didnt put out enough voltage (only 10V after i got it tested) which means that the battery was slowly being run down and i had similar symptoms.

I had one of my dads friends look at it and he said theres a short between the battery and the alternator but can't tell me anything else cause he doesn't know much about electronics.
How would I further check this..and how would I fix it? O.o

overheating will damage the varnish in the coils of the alternator and the starter (causing a short and thus, a dead section in the coil). You may have damaged both during your overheating. I wouldn't consider "overheating" to be less than 240 though. 220 is fairly normal operating range. Up in the red definitely has the ability to damage the starter.
Wire up your secondary fan to a toggle switch in the car or replace the temp switch.

Re: I'm pretty sure its the starter....
Alright...well I went up to advance auto parts and it started just fine when I put the new battery in it....so I drove the car back to Advance Auto Parts and had them check out everything and they said that its all good. When I explained to them about the other battery they said that was probably it.
I had bought the battery used because the battery that came in the car went completely out after I had put a new stereo in there...so after removing the stereo I bought the used battery(cause I was broke at the time). And they informed me just now that it was most likely the used battery.
So all I need to do is fix the fan motor and then the car should be good for a while. -_-' Im still gonna save up my money and plan on buying a better one and probably turn this one into a LS1 conversion..or a 350 conversion..or just use it for parts lol ill figure out something when the time comes xD
