HIGH Idle trouble
HIGH Idle trouble
Hey all, i had a post on the v6 forum but got no replies.
I have a 1991 RS 3.1 V6 Camaro, Automatic. It has 140k Miles.
When i start is up for the first time each day it Idles from about 2.5k and keeps going past 5k, but if i shift to neutral it goes down to around 2.5k, there is also a hesitation between when i hit the gas and when i move, before there was no hesitation.
I just replaced the TPS and IAC and changed from conventional oil to 10w30 Royal Purple. My idle before changing the oil and a adding the new TPS was about 1400 rpm and it was steady with no problems but i thought i could get the idle around 1k with a new TPS, after changing the oil and throwing the new TPS on my idle got crazy. So i thought the IAC might be the cause so i got a new one with the idle going higher at a faster rate at start up.
I have no idea why my idle would get worse after changing these parts. It runs fine once it gets going but if i stop at a light for over 1 minute the idle starts bounching around and it will eventually die. It will also die when i go from reverse to a drive gear.
all help is greatly appreciated

Re: HIGH Idle trouble
sounds a lot like a vaccuum issue. to check for vacuum leaks from the intake manifold, spray some carb cleaner or starting fluid all the way around the joining surfaces and watch for hissing bubbling or change in engine speed. If you find it, throw some sensor safe RTV on there and wait 24 hours before you start it up again. Also check your vacuum lines--all of them and every inch of them.
Just some suggestions,
