Engine suddenly misfiring

This happened yesterday for th 2nd time
this summer. 89' RS with 350 TBI.
Car runs fine... but twice this summer:
Suddenly kills. Then on restart, I can
barely keep engine running by revving to
keep rpm's over 3000. Take foot of gas,
immediately kills.
After 3 - 4 minutes of this, engine runs
fine again.
Any of you doctors have the diagnosis
and cure for me please?
Thanks!
Chuck

Re: Engine suddenly misfiring

Is the 'Check Engine' light coming on? Any codes stored (sometimes codes can appear in the ECM without the 'CE' light coming on.)? Had you changed anything recently before this started happening?

Have you done any maintenance to the ignition system... ie. replacement of coil, ign wires, cap, rotor, ign module? Checked the ignition timing? Spark strength?

How about the fuel system? Do the injectors in the TBI unit give a nice, even, misty looking spray when attempting to start/running? When did you last change the fuel filter? Has the fuel pump ever been replaced/wiring harness repaired? Are you able to check fuel pressure, or have someone who can?

Any modifications made to the car? Automatic or 5-spd?
