Stuttering. is it a Misfire?
I'm working on fixing the error codes that keep popping up in my 87 camaro since I took the LG4 out and put a 350 in. I had an error code 34. The vaccum line to the VAC sensor was off the carb. I put it back on and checked my timing. It had advanced maybe 10 deg. I set it back to 4 degrees advance at idle and took it for a test run. It ran fine but this morning on the way to work, every time I gave it more than a little gas i would get a stall reve stall rev. What's the deal. Where should I start looking.
If i put the trans into a lower gear (its auto) and the rpms rise to 1700 or higher, it runs great. Do I need to advance my timing some more? I should have never messed with my daily driver. I'm stuck with it now because I will never get anywhere near what I invested out of it and I can't afford another car.

I forgot. When I set my timing, I did it with the connector on the distributer because the engine won't run if I take it off. it stuters for a second or two, then dies.

is it the cam that can cause this? Should I check the rockerarm tightness? I noticed when installing the engine that the rocker arms were loose but I chalked that up to the engine not having run in a couple of months and the lifters therefore not being primed.

I am not sure, but I am in the same boat as you, I need to go buy a timing light and check mine. Seems like the motor wants to lope at low rpms but no tidle then fall on its face and pick back up to stable idle.

That sounds more like a sensor/fuel problem. The car is trying to find a steady idle, but the sensors are giving faulty info so it keeps correcting itself.
My car idles great. The only time it falls on its face is when I'm driving. under moderate acceleration, I get stall then high rev, then stall then high rev. The only thing that I changed since it was runnig ok was hooking up the differential pressure sensor and resetting the timing. I used a timing light, but i didnt unplug the 3-wire plug in the dizzy because the car would stutter and die when I did that.
Does anyone know about where the timing should be set a 500 rpm when the 3-wire plug is attached to the distributer?
