I don't even know where to start on how bad of an idea this is.... So why don't you start by giving us more info about what you're trying to do?

Re: cast iron heads

Use your stockers or vortecs. Have the valve guide bosses machined down and run the recommended valve springs.

If you use your stockers, have them cut for 1.94 intake valves as well.

Re: cast iron heads

its' out of a top end kit that comes with aluminum heads. tring to cut some cost somewhere. this car will not be an everyday driver more like a play toy. Tring to put together a 350 with at least 400 hp to rear. I can put it together i just dont know what matches what.

Re: cast iron heads

You're better off buying something from a real cam company instead of that Edelbrock.

Power comes from the heads, choose them first. Then pick a cam to match. After that there's no more power to be gained, only less power to be lost.

Re: cast iron heads

That cam sucks, and you're not "saving" money by buying it. There's an identical cam made by summit for $80 with lifters. It's still crappy cam though.

You're not going to get 400RWHP for cheap. That's a big HP number, especially from a 350. If you even get there, it'll be with big dollar parts.

well this is the top end kit i was looking at http://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350/2098/10002/-1

this is going to be a slow build i have other stuff to do before i start buying parts for motor. My plan was doing stock bottom end and getting all hp from top end. Just hoping not to spend 3-4 grand in the motor. Im open for any suggestions/combos that you guys can come up with. Just please list part #'s and website. Also i just got rid of all computer controlled parts and kept the basics.

also 350-400 rwhp would be good for street/strip.

Re: cast iron heads

400 flywheel HP would be good for street/strip. The Edelbrock isn't going to get you anywhere near 400 HP to the rear. Edelbrock heads are okay, but if you're spending the money on aluminum heads, you could get a lot better for not much more. The Edelbrock cam is overpriced, outdated crap.

For a cheap street/strip combo, cast iron Vortecs machined for more lift and a decent cam from Comp's Xtreme Energy line (or similar from any other real cam vendor) would work fine, assuming you've taken care of the car's real problem first, which is the exhaust.

Re: cast iron heads

Cast iron def go with dart eagle iron heads. Im looking into picking up a pair anyday now(need that check to come in!)
400 to the wheels is not an easy task, and no top end kit for under 2 grand will get you their honestly.
Get a nice set of good flowing aluminum heads(afr, dart, ect), dont go cheap on this part either.
Comp cams make a great selection of cams(camquest 6 is a program they have for free to help select a cam, it gives you est. hp numbers too.)(best bang for the buck would be complete cam kit with matching lifters springs and head/valve stuff.
You want a good flowing intake and a carb to give you the fuel needed as well.
Full exhaust from headers back.
Now with that power youll want to throw a shift kit in that tranny and DEF beef up your rear end!
Your looking at 5 grand to do it right the first time.

Re: cast iron heads

I appear to be going against everyone else. But, I had a simular spec Crower mechanical flat tappet (.496/.502 lift, 236/240 @ .050), a set of 441 casting GM iron heads (machined w/ 2.02/1.60 valves) and a Team G street Ram intake on a 350. I don't have dyno #'s but with a set of 3.73's in a posi 12 bolt, and a shift kit (Turbo 350), it got my 3800lb 70 Monte Carlo side ways shifting into 3rd...
