Head Questions

What is the difference between angle port and straight port heads, besides the angle of the port? I am putting together a 406 and need a set of heads that will work with a set of Hooker 2055 headers.

Re: Head Questions

It's angle plug and straight plug. Straight plug heads have the plugs entering the chamber perpendicular to the head in a plan view. Angle plug heads have the plugs entering at an angle. The actual angle can vary depending on whether you're talking about a stock L98 angle, or a particular aftermarket design, for example.

Re: Head Questions

Angle ports in theory make a miniscule amount more power, but there's no real difference. Clearance for your headers is a greater concern.

Re: Head Questions

I'd say angle plug heads usually fit better as far as exhaust. I believe the original idea came from GM saying that the spark is better exposed being angled.

Re: Head Questions

If your headers aren't designed with the plug angle of your heads in mind, you might find the plugs and the header primaries trying to occupy the same space.
