car thumps on take off
Ok my 86 iroc just started to make this clunk when I step on the gas I was thinking it was a torque arm mount or trans mount. Does anyone have an idea of what it may be thanks. Also were would I get the kit to relocate the arm to the crossmember instead of the trans?

Re: car thumps on take off
Have you checked under the car to determine if it was the tranny mount? More than likely is the trans mount. As far as "relocate the arm to the crossmember instead of the trans?" I am not aware you could unless you fabricate one yourself.

Nah haven't had a chance to yet. It only does it wen I step on it hard otherwise the car drives and shifts fine. I heard there was a kit if I have to weld one on I will.

its on of the two mounts, i would say trans mount
you can get crossmembermounted torque arms from UMI, BMR, Spohn, Jegster, and Moser sells a setup too, though its a complete system with rear and everything $$$$

I don't mind makin one. Ill replace the tranny mount. Do you think its just better to go solid motor and tranny mounts?
Re: car thumps on take off
Checking the trans mount is easy- just push up hard on the tailshaft of the transmission. If it's shot you'll see it's probably ripped totally in half and the only thing holding it together is the weight of the transmission. Torque arm bushings you can just use your eyeballs.
The Energy Suspension poly trans mount works well. It's got interlocking metal parts inside it that prevent ripping it in half, which factory mounts don't have. Once installed you'll never have that problem again.

solid motor mounts are up to you, but DO NOT use a solid trans mount

Trans mount for sure. Jegs or summit has the torque arm relocation bracket you are looking for. If this is a street car, I wouldnt put in solid mounts. The vibration and rattles will drive you nuts!!!
