cheap power?

im looking to add more power to my car somehow, but hopefully cheaply and easily...i currently have on there:
-hooker shorty headers
-home made cool air intake
-exhaust cut out (3")
-flowmaster muffler

and a couple other things that are supposed to add power i think but they dont really help lol...anyone have any suggestions?

Take out that heavy stereo stuff. Less weight to push around is the cheapest "power" available.

Have it tuned properly.

Nitrous.

350 shortblock.

"cheap" is usually not going to get you much power and cheap is also a relative term. "cheap" for one person is different than "cheap" for another. so a $$$ figure would help us all out.

as far as the cheaper things if you dont have them...

gears. $200 plus install (if you dont feel comfortable doing it yourself), another $200-250. the wont make it have more power, but it will feel faster.

if you havent done any suspension work, that makes it alot more fun to drive and can be done from $300 to $800 (sometimes what you pay for is what you get).

Easiest 150 horsepower you'll ever bolt on.

Re: cheap power?

I would agree with cam, stock intake is ok for a 5.0, dunno what a lt1 would do with a mild 5.0. But if your gonna pull the intake for the cam, might as well get it ported or replaced.

A cam should really give you some good power, since you already have the exhaust and intake opened up.

And, if you have the cam out, you'll certainly have to change the valvesprings, the rockers are off, so the only thing stopping you from pulling the heads is the header bolts. Could get them ported, or find a pair of used aftermarket heads.

Re: cheap power?

well i was thinking of this cheap power to be something to hold me off till i can get a 350...this motor has 160,000 miles on it so i dont know how much more i can really put though it (meaning the nos) and the cam sounds good...but isnt that a lot of work? im just thinking of something to hold me off for about a year till i get the 350

plus this is a daily driver so i cant quite get the intake off to get it sent out

Re: cheap power?

at that rate, just save for the 350 so you can get it sooner. i really dont think anything would be worth it in terms of money to power benefit ratio, and especially since its your daily driver.

i think gears would be a good choice for something because they are quick and wont require your car off of the road, and they will be fine for the 350. 3.73 or 4.10's really spice things up.

4.10's in a daily driver are very expensive over time. The nitrous will transfer to the 350 and it won't affect your mileage when it's off either ...
The high mileage engine is actually perfect for N2O because it already has the bigger piston ring gap .

...as opposed to spraying one that has $2500 worth of new parts in it?
I'd a whole lot rather spray a worn out 305 with high miles that is worth, at best, a $250 core charge.
Besides, he did say he was going to get a 350.
Might as well have some funwith that 305 before it makes it to the scrap yard...
I thay spwray it!

Re: cheap power?

well ultimately my plan is to get a 350, and i was wondering about maybe like MSD coil/cap/rotor? that do anything at all?

and i kidna dont want to blow up the 305 cuz i just found out that you can put these in jeep wranglers and hardcore off roaders are looking for some old used up 305's so i was going to try to rebuild it a bit and sell it to someone like that

The 305 and 350 are identical externally. They want 305s because they can get 3 for $150... disposable engines.
