few questions about 2 and 4 bolt main block

ok, as of now, the camaro ive been working on threw a rod (pretty sweet lookin if you ask me, ill get some pics up of it.)my question is. will the crank and rods from a 4 bolt block work in a 2 bolt block. i keep hearing stuff about a large journal and small. is that the thickness (so to speak) of the bearing, well, the width i guess? im still in the process of tearing it down. its basically bare besides 1 piston and the balancer and the flexplate. if i can swap all the parts onto the 2 bolt main from the 4 bolt, that would be great. i would use the 4 bolt but it needs alot of work, the cylinders are out of round and im sure they have some pitting. the other (old) 2 bolt main has a crack in the water jacket, that was goin to be my next choice, but i dont have the crank to it anymore. ....

oh, and i guess a stock bottem end of a sbc 350 wont handle 5800 rpm.

It doesnt have anything to do with 2 or 4 bolt, the small journal cranks are old cranks... pre 67 or something. I'm not sure the exact year.

Re: few questions about 2 and 4 bolt main block

ok, so by the sounds of it its good news kinda. both blocks are between 78-84. but the block that threw a rod, everything is .010 over, the rods and the crank. so, i heard that the crank wont work, but maybe it will, ill get some more info and input on that. but is it goin to be worth getting the other 4 bolt crank turned for .010 or should i just go with the eagle rotating assembally like i was planning. also. when it is .010 does that make the bearings and crank weaker? stronger? or the same?

since i threw a rod, and messed the crank up on those journals. the main journals look clean. should i just rebuild the 2 bolt main, or work on the 4 bolt. they are both bare, both will get bored .030 over. but the 4 bolt will need align honed. the 2 bolt dont. im looking to get around 500 horse. spinning around 6,000 rpm. street strip. the cam is healthy, 565 lift straight across. solid lifter. torker 2 intake, and a 3000 stall is getting installed. everything will come in around 2400-2500. and end at about 6500-7000.

new plans i think, go .030 over on the cylinders, throw a stroker crank and eagle rods in her and be done.

do they make stroker cranks that dont have to have the block chamferred for the size?

The crank will work fine, but it'll need to be turned down further if you've thrown a rod.

There's no such thing as a "4 bolt crank". Any crank can be used in a 2 bolt or 4 bolt block. For that matter, even the block castings are the same, the only difference between a 2 and 4 bolt block is in the machining.

There's no difference in strength.

It's up to you. I'd build whichever one needs less machining, which is the 2 bolt.

How much power you get out of it is going to depend on your heads, which you haven't mentioned at all. A .565 cam is probably going to have a higher powerband than you're looking for. The Toker II is a horrible, horrible intake, too.

No stroker cranks need to have the block chamfered for the size.

"block chamfered for the size"? I'm not sure what you mean there.
But I thought you need to clearance the oil pan rails with a stroker crank commonly.
