TBI wants to die during acceleration
I have a 87 Camaro Sports Coupe/Berlinetta, 305 TBI, 700R4. It will start up, and idle just fine. I can rev it, too. But when I put it in gear and give it gas it starts missing and eventually will die. It has a new pump, lines are unclogged(this kept it from starting at all), New distributor rotor, cap, spark plug wires, and spark plugs. all new. And I rebuilt the carburator. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!! This is my baby. I can't lose her.

Re: TBI wants to die during acceleration
How did you unclog the lines?
The fuel pump delivers TWO things:
1. Pressure
2. Volume
If your fuel lines are STILL RESTRICTING the FLOW of fuel you can have perfect pressure but it will drop off fast under load because the VOLUME demanded by the engine is not met.
That is the first thing that comes to mind in your situation.
You might also make sure there are no air leaks into the manifold. The PCV valve should not allow air through the fitting it sits in, etc.
It sounds like the air/fuel mixture is fine at idle but not fine when the engine is under load.
But I would investigate the fuel pressure topic first. If you could connect a fuel pressure meter in line and watch for any change in pressure when you increase the load on the engine. Again, if there is a restriction in the fuel lines you will see that pressure is fine until the load creates a demand for increased VOLUME at the proper PRESSURE (that combination). The pressure will drop under load if there is a restriction in the lines.
Hope to hear what you find out.

Disconnect the two ends and blast air through it.
Well, I can get it up to 30 mph then it will start missing. Or if I floor it, it will miss right off the bat. I'll look into all the things you said, though.

Re: TBI wants to die during acceleration
Well I blasted air through the lines again and put some fuel system cleaner it the gas tank, and it still does the same thing. Oh and we did find out it's a 4bbl not TBI. Do you think the carb could be bad?
Re: TBI wants to die during acceleration
Is that four barrel carburetor supposed to have an electric fuel pump creating pressure for it? Maybe not.
If the fuel pressure is too high and you do not have some type of fuel regulator you will be forcing pressurized fuel into the carburetor. A normal TBI type fuel pump supplies about 11.4 PSI of fuel pressure. A normal TPI type of fuel pump supples about 38 PSI of fuel pressure.
Hopefully you have a source that can tell you what fuel pressure is required AT the carburetor fuel intake for proper operation.

Re: TBI wants to die during acceleration
No It had an old mechanical one on there that I replaced.
Before this problem began, I drove it about 20 miles just fine, no problems at all. Then on the way back, I started having that problem. So we had to tow it back. I thought it was flooded and the float inside the carburator needed adjusted. So I adjusted it so it wouldn't let as much in. It ran fine for a while then started doing it again.
and I don't know anything about a fuel regulator. But when I started haveing this problem, I disconnected the fuel line connected to the carb and fuel came spurting out WITHOUT THE ENGINE CRANKING.

Re: TBI wants to die during acceleration
That 'spurting' sounds like you had fuel pressure built up from something. Maybe you have a one way valve between the mechanical fuel pump and the carburetor that will hold pressure even when the carburetor says 'ENOUGH!' and shuts off the fuel supply to the carburetor.
Are you saying you have a mechanical fuel pump being used right now or an electric fuel pump?
Can you still start it and idle it without a problem?
When you crank it does the carburetor area smell like you are flooding the engine?

Re: TBI wants to die during acceleration
I don't think there's a valve in that line because I replaced that line too.
Sometimes it doesn't want to start, but it will start and idle. I did notice a reving problem the other day though. If I give it some gas to rev, It will miss then rev.
